In Tune

An exploration of the powerful ability of Music to bring people together

According to Merriam-Webster: “in tune” refers to a state in which the correct musical sound is played or sung but it also means a state in which people agree with or understand one another.

I love when I can witness the connections that music easily establishes between humans. In a street in a lift, people would tend to ignore each other, the proximity with strangers make them uncomfortable.

And yet, find an open space a band playing live music and almost instantly, so easily, people smile people laugh and even dance together. They are no longer separated or isolated, they follow the same tune, this song that they sing along.

On that level at least, for a moment long or brief, they are in tune, connected, they recognise each other as a members of a giant human tribe, and that, that is beautiful to see …
