Koala for China

An inspirational collaboration between Chinese and Australian conservationists

In 2007, I had the privilege to observe and record some of the tremendous work done by animal conservationists to raise awareness about wildlife protection.

It had taken two years for Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on the Gold Coast, Australia and Chimelong Safari Park in Guangzhou, China to complete the first step of their animal exchange programme.

While CWS prepared for the adoption of giant pandas, the Chinese park had already welcomed the furry koalas. Under the care of Australian wildlife experts, the kolas not only strived and bred, but to the surprise of all, they delivered two healthy twin joeys.

I was lucky to be invited to photograph the celebration of this miraculous event.
